E.K. & Thomas

Thank you for stopping by our page and for considering us as potential adoptive family for your child. We are very excited about expanding our family to share the love that surround us. We met online in 2007 and got married in 2011. We have spent several years working on our careers and preparing our family home here on Long Island getting everything set up for the baby to join us. While we understand the responsibility of raising a child, we also can’t wait to share our laughter and joy for life with our baby. What do we have to offer? Our clean, safe, warm home in a great neighborhood full of diverse and caring people who are also looking forward to meeting and caring for our little addition. As professor and librarian, we are sure we can lay the foundation for a bright future by providing a full and meaningful education for our child. We can’t wait to play games with the baby in our yard, teach them how to grow fruits and veggies in the garden, meet our friends, neighbors, and family.

About Thomas

Job Description
Librarian and manager of one of the busiest libraries in Queens

Hobbies
I read lots of books, grow flowers and sweetcorn in the garden, play with Legos, work projects around the house from fixing a doorknob to adding solar panels. I’m also trying to learn to play the piano.

Fun Fact
I grew up on a farm and moved to New York to work at fortune 100 companies in training, finance, and marketing roles. While I enjoyed the work, it did not spark passion so age 43 I went back to school to get my master’s degree and became a librarian so I can fight for human rights and work one-on-one with people to build better communities.

Our Lives

We are passionate about our work: E.K. loves being in the college classroom sharing and learning the values of humanities with students; Thomas invests greatly in serving the public from hosting story times for toddlers to providing resources to older adults and immigrants. The highlight of his day is working with kids who visit his library.

In addition, what really has made us who we are is being raised by hard working parents who are passionate about passing their values to us. Treating everyone with compassion, honesty, integrity, and love are core values that our families carefully instilled in us. These are the traditions we want to pass on to our children. Another strong passion we share is our appreciation for nature and one another. At home, we spend a lot of time in our garden. Every summer through fall, we get our hands and feet dirty digging potatoes, harvesting lettuce, cabbages, blueberries, tomatoes, peppers, corn, and pumpkins, and more. On weekends, we enjoy quality time together by bake and cooking, going swimming, visiting libraries, bookstores and coffeeshops, and checking out the parks and gardens across Long Island. At least once a year, we travel together to explore a different country, state, or national park. We have been to countries as far as Taiwan, cities as unique as Montréal and parks as beautiful as Arcadia National Park in Maine. We cannot wait to take our child with us on these trips. There is so much we can learn as a family as we experience other cultures and trek different terrains.

Our Family

We both come from working class families that value hard work and family values. EK’s father worked in construction. Thomas’ family were farmers in the Midwest.

E.K.’s family is in Singapore. We hope to visit there once a year or more so our child can spend time on the tropical island with a big family of grandparents, uncles, aunties, and cousins. We hope that this environment will help our child learn to embrace multiculturalism and grow up bilingual or multilingual.

Thomas grew up with a large family in Illinois. As farmers, I got to learn how to grow things, fix things, but also how to run a small business including working with taxes, finances and how to build important personal and business relationships in our community.

We also believe that family is what we build together with those we care and love who do not necessarily have to share biological associations. We have many friends on Long Island, Queens and NYC that we see regularly. They will be an important part of our family life. Right now, we are a family of four with Thomas, E.K. and our two cats, Chasey and Sissy.
