Joseph & Kabir

Welcome! We’re Kabir and Joseph. We’re delighted to introduce ourselves. We come from different backgrounds; Kabir is of Indian origin born in the Middle East and now a US citizen and Joseph was born one of nine children in Oregon. But we realize that, at our core, we share similar values, love for family, education, travel, history, and culture. For example, we have traveled to over 20 countries on 5 continents. We are both doctors, not the kind who can perform surgery but rather the kind who studied a lot (at leading universities including Harvard, Oxford and Columbia) to get a Ph.D. 🙂

Adoption is something we have talked about since the first year we met (back in 2012) and now we are excited and ready to make this dream a reality. We have ten nieces and nephews who we absolutely love to our core, and we are so excited to add another cousin to the mix. One other important point about our family is that Kabir’s mother Nina lives with us for at least 8 months out of every year and will provide our child with a Nani’s (grandmother in Hindi) love and plenty of home cooked meals.

Our Lives

Family is our number one priority. Kabir’s mother Nina, who we both adore, lives with us up to 8 months out of the year. She helps teach Joseph how to cook Indian dishes and he helps teach her how to cook Italian. Together, they are both learning to cook Thai! We love trying all the cuisines that New York City has to offer (e.g. Georgian, South African, Indonesian, Columbian, Peruvian, etc.) We often read books to each other before going to sleep about religion, culture, and history and we are so excited to introduce our future child to our love of reading! Both our careers involve education as well. We live in a vibrant and diverse neighborhood filled with parks, libraries, and playgrounds. We are constantly trying to learn new things and pursue our passions, such as learning Spanish, writing, and learning about culture and history.

Our Family

Our household is composed of ourselves, and for most of the year, Kabir’s mother Nina. However, our extended family, who we talk to at least every other day (and often daily) is a huge part of our lives. Kabir’s sister lives with her husband, daughter and son in the U.K. Joseph’s parents and siblings live in the Pacific Northwest and his sisters and brothers have four boys and four girls ranging in age from 4 to 21 years old. Because so little of our family is in the same city as us, it is super important that we visit both Kabir and Joseph’s extended family at least twice a year and we really value these times together. We are so excited to introduce our future child to Nonno and Nonna (grandparents in Italian), Bua (aunt in Hindi) and all the rest of their aunts and uncles on the west coast.

In Conclusion

Choosing us as adoptive parents is the greatest gift anyone will ever give us. We understand that this is a difficult time, and we want to sincerely thank you for considering us for this honor. – Joseph and Kabir
